The project is based on a story which is split in different parts and music structures these pieces. This allows to play between narration and proper songs. This is a memory work and a reconstruction attempt. It is about desire, a restless wandering, an escape, an awakening and a fight. That's the story of human being, man, woman, dreams and beliefs. The quest of the Infinite takes shape through the emotional motion of Tracy'O.

Drunk Driving German Bishop Resigns

Over the weekend, the head of the Protestant church in Germany was caught drunk driving. While German commentators condemned Margot Kässmann's actions, most did not feel that she should lose her job. Nevertheless on Wednesday it became clear that the bishop felt her position was untenable.

Cinema Legend Heads Berlinale Jury

Werner Herzog is a German cinema legend, and yet he has received little recognition in his home country in recent years. Now the director is finally back in Germany, where he is heading the jury at this year's Berlin International Film Festival. As usual, the maverick filmmaker is doing things his way.

Anti-Tourist Alernative

At the heart of the arteries of Europe lies Berlin,  known for being saturated with history, but also for being a main organ pumping fresh underground culture, music, and diversity throughout the continent.
If you want to feel more-like a local instead of a tourist; if you care about the true veins of Berlin culture, and not just about the over-trodden money-making path, if you wish to discover and support small businesses and local artists, you need to know about Alternative Berlin.
What do they offer? In their own words: "[We] show you a side of the city you would never know existed. To put you in touch with the real people in Berlin, and to show you just what they do in their everyday lives". Need more reasons? What about "to help out local businesses, establishments, and culture. To protect the very thing that makes Berlin such an incredible city”.

May Day in Kreuzberg

By Simon Imdahl / Chris McMorrow/ Peter Holland

A massive demonstration and street celebration organized by beardy, yogurt eating, left-oriented, sandal wearers, (and slightly more scary leftist-radical groups) has taken place on the first of May for over two decades now. Since a contra-demonstration by the puppy-eating, jackbooted, face smashing, neo-fascistic party NPD and it's youth organisation Junge Nationaldemokraten in 1998, the event has become synonymous with the ongoing fight against neo-nationalism and xenophobia. This May Day in Germany could prove to be the most violent in years.

The past four months alone have borne witness to a disturbing spike in arson incidents and other politically-inspired attacks all over the country. Berlin Police claim more than 70 cars, usually luxury models, have been burnt since January. In comparison, the total number of incidents last year were around 100. Over 1000 police are predicted to be on hand to de-escalate tension between at least 1000 neo-Nazis and anti-racist demonstrators.

A focal point for this growing aggression in previous months is the left-wing Kreuzberg neighborhood, where growing gentrification has attracted militant protest vandalism. Continued forecasts of job losses in the thousands as well as pent up frustration within the capital's lower income districts is doubtless playing a part in the recent rise of violence.

And you know what frustration, riot police and beer spells...? Party 'til the tear gas makes you puke.

Driver crash-lands car on church roof

intro by Kate Pinto

Ouch...

Original article from Reuters.

BERLIN (Reuters Life!) - A German motorist missed a bend in the road, broke through a barrier and hurtled up a bank, crash-landing on a church roof in eastern Germany, police said on Monday.

The bank acted like a springboard, propelling the black Skoda about 35 meters (115 ft) forward and straight into the church's roof frame, where it remained wedged 7 meters off the ground, police said in a statement.

"We've never ever had a case of a car landing in a church before," said Frank Fischer, a spokesman for Chemnitz police in the state of Saxony.

Die Kunststoffe Der Kunst / The Plastics of Art

by Manda Singer

For one weekend a year, all eyes are on Berlin as Art Forum resumes its residence at the Messegelände ICC on the outskirts of Charlottenburg.
One of the largest and most renowned art fairs in the world, Art Forum ignites a chain reaction of both high and low profile exhibitions and fairs throughout the city.

For those who preferred something else a bit more detached from the mediatized art circle, three events, varying widely in theme and style, all managed to attract a consistent swell of visitors with a vernissage evening.

Bombshelled

By Manda Singer

Despite it having gone through numerous cycles of abandonment and renewal over the past century, roller derby looks like it is here to stay. Although the crux of its recognition remains in America, myriad teams have formed the world over, and now Berlin can finally boast having its very own - the Berlin Bombshells.

The Bombshells are one of only four teams in Germany, with the others located in Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Ludwigsburg. Though the Bombshells do not currently hold bouts outside of their own club in Berlin, they have the intention of competing nationally and are closely linked with the Stuttgart team, who played a crucial role in the team's development. "The Stuttgart team hosted our first meeting," says Molly, the Bombshells captain, "two of the girls came up and brought training videos and talked to the girls about setting up the team." The Stuttgart players' advice including how to find inexpensive equipment and tips to generate interest for the sport in both Berlin and Germany as a whole.

Fuckparade 2008

www.fuckparade.org

Participate, do it yourself, do it better!

The 12th Fuckparade starts August 9th, 2 pm at the Michaelkirchbrücke in Mitte, Berlin. This year the demonstration is driving against property development, for the sake of the Schwarzer Kanal, Köpi, New Yorck and the Bethanien, as well as against police repression, drug hysteria and gentrification.

Fuckparade, shortened from Fuck Love Parade, is an annual march taking place in Berlin, originally formed in 1997 to resist the increasing commercialisation and restrictiveness of Love Parade, a festival that's sponsorship deals and music restrictions pushed many participants away. Fuckparade is a subculture movement characterised by gabba and hardcore techno music (which were removed from Love Parade), aimed at enhancing cultural diversity, avoiding commercialisation and, since 2001 clashes with the Berlin Senate, preserving free means of expression in demonstration.

Two Streets in Berlin

by Jim Hudson

Karl-Marx-Allee. This two-kilometer-long triumphal route of overbearing, neo-classical buildings owes more to Moscow than Mitte. The street has all the architectural subtlety of a wedding cake. At one end, two nine-storey high-rises, each topped with a tower, form an imposing gateway completely at odds with Berlin's low-rise feel.

Hansaviertel. Contemporary houses and blocks of flats sit among trees and landscaping at the beautiful Tiergarten's northern edge. Built for the 1957 Interbau, this street is a virtual who’s-who list of modernist architectural design, including Oscar Niemeyer. In fact, Hansaviertel features this world-famous Brazilian architect's only building in Germany. Architecture students flock there daily to photograph each other in its huge V-shaped support columns.
